Mr. Mejia was admitted from Lennox Hill Hospital on October 27 2016. He was admitted with a diagnosis of right middle cerebral artery stroke and embolic infarct, congestive heart failure, peak expiratory flow, COPD, hyperlipidemia and type II diabetes. Mr. Mejia had experienced a stroke while he was at home and was quickly rushed to the hospital. Upon admission to the hospital, Mr. Mejia underwent a series of tests to determine what the damage of the stroke he had caused. After the tests were compete, it was determined that he would stay in the hospital to be monitored and that no major damage had occurred due to his stroke.
Once Mr. Mejia was admitted to The Riverside, he was immediately greeted by the nursing team to do an initial assessment to ensure that he was stable. Mr. Mejia recalls how he was a bit disoriented and confused but does recall the staff being very friendly, nice and welcoming.
Mr. Mejia explains that they told him at the hospital that he had had a stroke but that he was very lucky that there was no major damage and that the doctors at the hospital felt that he needed rehab before he would be able to go home. Mr. Mejia shares that he is very happy that he came to The Riverside, he says he has a very high regard for all the staff here at The Riverside who have treated Mr. Mejia with a lot of compassion, patience and respect.
He also mentions that he really enjoyed the food that was served, he explained that when he was younger he lived in Central America and his family was very poor and his mother had a hard time feeding them even breakfast. He says he has a special respect when it comes to food and that the meals that were served were delicious and filling.
Mr. Mejia also praises the therapy that he has been receiving so far, he said that they have been working with him very well and that they spend time explaining it all to him. It has been hard work but he is seeing progress and hopes to back up on his feet and heading back home shortly. Mr. Mejia knows that after a stroke the recovery can sometimes be hard but he is committed to do whatever it takes to get better and he knows that the team here at The Riverside will be standing alongside him through his journey of Renewal.™
